Quarry Gap Shelters
This morning it took me forever to get up. On the up side I felt very refreshed. The temps were cool but the trail was up and down keeping me sweaty anyhow.
Along the way I ran into a hiker, Greybeard, hiking back to his car and we got caught up in conversation. He was a retired computer guy an related stories of when programmers were real programmers and where systems administrators knew their systems down to bare metal and code. I enjoyed talking with him greatly but we reached his car and I had to move on.
The rest if the day consisted mostly of easy trail with lots of short up an down. At about 5 I got the shelter. I was originally planning on going to the next shelter but the people here are so friendly and shelter so beautiful that I couldn't bear to leave. "Innkeeper" who maintains this shelter obviously takes great pride in it. Most striking are the hanging flowers he has all around the shelter that really liven the place up an make it look like a home as opposed to the dark dankness most shelters have. In addition he has built a covered cook area. There was a board game and even rewarding material in the privy. Everything was spotless from his multiple weekly visits to check up on things. In front was a rock lined creek flowing in front of the shelters to add to the atmosphere.
I don't think I mentioned it before but here there are two shelters. I have never heard of this until PA but it appears a great deal of their shelter sites have two small rather than one large shelter. None of us know why but some theories are for boy/girls space or for snoring and non-snoring which were found on signs on another pair of shelters.
I am about to hit the sack, it is 11:30 P.M.. The reason for the late hour is I have been obsessed with finishing my book. I read it a lot during breaks and that is slowing me down so I decided if I finish it so I won't be so distracted. It is "Tell No One" by Harlan Coban. All in all I enjoyed it though the plot occasionally became a little messy and the big suspenseful item was a a bit of a literary cheat. All in all I recommend it though.
