Ironmaster's
Hostel
Today was another
eventful day. I
reached the real half way mark. In fact conveniently enough it is in
front of the hostel where I am spending the night.
I am in a bit of a food coma so I won't be writing much. The trail was easy flat most of the day often on dirt roads or abandoned dirt roads so I made about 4mph most of the day. The last stretch was bit tricky if you don't keep your eyes open for the blazes. Where I am staying, the Ironmasters, is a historic building where Mr. and Ms. Washington once attended a wedding for the owner of a nearby iron works. It sits perched overlooking an old stone iron furnace built in the 1800's that is the namesake of the state park it lies in, Pine Grove Furnace State Park. The hostel didn't open till 5 P.M. so I had a couple hours to kill. I spent the first with the traditional half way celebration, the half gallon challenge. The rules I have read say one must buy a half gallon of ice cream from the small camp store next to Iornmasters and consume it in one sitting, preferably in a half hour. I choose mint chocolate chip and finished the half gallon in 52 minutes and 51 seconds. That was 2240 calories according to the label. I felt not so hot after. Oddly I felt somewhat drunk from the blood rush to the belly. In the end I seemed to have suffered no ill effects. A couple hours later I went to a hearty dinner with John, a minister who was staying at the hostel. He was very friendly and we had a good dinner at a restaurant near by. His goal in life right now is to open a orphanage. I hope he has the best of luck with that tough job.
I am going to pass out now.
