Jerry Cabin Shelter
Last nite the mouse got really bold and abandoned the shelter and set up a tent and tarp nearby. After that we slept well.
I found a bunch of tan colored salamanders in the water hole.
The hike out to the next gap was quick and easy and a sign near the road said the trail magic was still going on.
We rolled into the home of Hercules and Fal where we were stuffed with food. They have learned how to feed a thru-hiker. Usually if you sit me in front of a lot of food I will snarf it until I am sick and then a hour or two later I am hungry. The trick they figured out was lots of normal sized portions. First there were homemade waffles which were just perfect. Then a delay and there was a selection of fresh breads. Next spicey vegitarian chile, and then desert. Then some friendly conversation about faith and helpful books about the same. They also had the most adorable dog, Hedi, who seemed to live to bounch a tossed ball back to Hercules by knocking it baclk with her nose.
After that meal I was full for hours. We said our good-bys and proceded to a long climb. That rewarded us with a walk through a tree rimmed bald and a blue sky. The trail was lined with tiny yellow, purple, and white flowers.
At Camp Creek Bald I came across a firetower side trail that turned out to be pretty crummy. The top of the montain appeared to be devoted to a massive number attena sites ringed by chainlink and barbed wire.
After that there was a stunning rocky and slow ridge walk. It was a real ankle twister with no level surface. Always climbing over a rock, squeezing through another making it hard to take in the view.
At the shelter we met up with the threesome call Goats, Lindsey and her dad Papa Hawk, Big Gulp, and Ninja.
While cooking someone didn't realize that alachol stoves have invisable flames. They poured fuel into a running stove and then jumped in surprise spilling fuel all over. Once the fire was under control dinner was uneventful. I made too much vegi tacos and black beans so I have some left over for breakfast.

Even as someone who works for a church and has studied religion, or maybe because of it, I find such an experience of hospitality coupled with a "sales" pitch for a particular understanding of Christianity a bit distasteful and uncomfortable. "Hi, welcome to my home, okay now that I have you here let me tell you The Truth which I have and you do not . . ."
